Case IH 4314 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.6 - Spool Not in Neutral When Switched On

Issue description

When the tractor's ignition was turned on, the system detected that the hydraulic spool valve for Rear Remote #6 was not resting in its center (neutral) position.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH STX Steiger Series

Check the cause

  1. Determine if the operator shut the tractor down while Remote No. 6 was engaged (operational check)

  2. Check the hydraulic fluid for dirt, metal shavings, or water intrusion

  3. Clear the error code using the tractor's display monitor or the Electronic Service Tool (EST), cycle the ignition, and test the remote for normal operation

  4. Verify if the EHR levers and valves are properly calibrated

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Reset

Turn the key on, clear the fault code from the instrument cluster/display, and turn the key off. Turn the key back on to see if the spool has returned to neutral and the code remains inactive.

  2. Hydraulic Maintenance

If the code returns or the valve is physically sticking, drain the hydraulic fluid and replace the hydraulic filters.

  3. Valve Cleaning/Inspection

Locate Rear Remote Valve No. 6 at the rear hydraulic block. Remove the EHR pilot head/actuator and carefully extract the main spool. Clean the spool and the valve bore with appropriate solvent to remove any debris or contamination.

  4. Component Replacement

If the spool is scored, damaged, or continues to stick after cleaning, the main spool assembly or the electronic pilot head must be replaced.

  5. Recalibration

After any hydraulic valve service, reassembly, or replacement, you must perform an EHR lever and valve calibration procedure using the tractor's display or the Case IH EST software so the module can relearn the new neutral set point.
