Case IH 4317 – EHR: Rear Remote No.7 - Checksum Verification Failure
Issue description
Indicates an EEPROM (internal memory) error within the electronic controller mounted directly on the #7 rear remote spool valve. The module has detected that its internal software or calibration data is corrupted or mismatched (checksum failure).
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger & Quadtrac series (350 to 600 HP)
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at Rear Remote No. 7 for corrosion, moisture, or backed-out pins, as severe voltage drops can sometimes cause memory read errors.
Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and check the current software level of the EHR valve.
Attempt to download the correct level of software into the EHR valve and reconfigure the valve using the EST. If the checksum error clears and the valve calibrates successfully, the issue was a software glitch.
Repair steps
Depressurize
Turn off the engine, cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve trapped hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the tractor's battery.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Rear Remote No. 7 valve section.
Disassemble the Stack
Remove the end cover and unbolt the tie-rods/mounting bolts that hold the rear remote valve stack together.
Remove the Valve
Carefully slide out the faulty Rear Remote No. 7 valve section.
Install the New Valve
Install the replacement EHR valve section. Ensure all O-rings between the valve slices are replaced and properly seated to prevent internal/external leaks.
Reassembly
Reinstall the tie-rods and torque the valve stack bolts to the exact OEM specification found in your specific model's service manual to prevent spool binding.
Calibrate
Reconnect the battery and the electrical harness. Connect the Case IH EST laptop to the diagnostic port. You must configure and calibrate the new EHR valve section before it will operate.
Parts you might need
(1)EHR Control Valve Element / Rear Remote Valve Section
Exact part numbers vary heavily depending on the tractor's specific hydraulic pump flow rate (e.g., 113 L/min CCLS) and whether the tractor is equipped with Power Beyond. Reference catalog section 35.204. The electronic controller is integrated into the valve section and cannot be purchased separately. Dealer software (EST) is strictly required.
