Case IH 432 – Engine Controller (ENG / ECU): Hand Throttle (STD cab) position potentiometer and switches disagree
Issue description
Modern electronic hand throttles utilize two redundant systems for safety: an analog position potentiometer and idle validation switches. The fault is triggered when the Engine Controller detects a mismatch between these two inputs. For example, if the potentiometer voltage indicates the throttle is advanced, but the idle validation switch still reports that the lever is in the closed/idle position, the system flags code 432 to prevent unintended engine acceleration.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the hand throttle assembly for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Verify that the engine controller is sending the correct 5-volt reference supply to the potentiometer (a failure here often triggers related codes like 443).
Using a multimeter, check the resistance/voltage sweep of the potentiometer as the hand throttle is moved from idle to full throttle. Look for erratic readings, voltage drops, or dead spots.
Test the idle validation switches to ensure they properly open and close as the lever transitions off the idle stop.
Repair steps
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Remove the right-hand fender console or armrest trim panels to access the hand throttle and transmission control switch assembly.
Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the hand throttle potentiometer.
Remove the retaining hardware (typically M4 or M5 hex socket head screws) securing the potentiometer to the throttle bracket/lever assembly.
Remove the faulty potentiometer.
If replacing the entire grip/lever assembly, remove the retaining pins and split cotter pins.
Install the new potentiometer, ensuring the internal O-ring is properly seated to prevent dust/debris intrusion.
Reinstall the retaining screws, reconnect the electrical harness, and reassemble the console trim.
Reconnect the battery.
Clear the fault codes and perform a Throttle Calibration procedure via the tractor's display monitor.
Failure to calibrate the new potentiometer will likely result in a secondary fault code (Code 9013: "Controller Memory Error - Loss of Throttle Calibrations").
