Case IH 4323 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Control Module: Rear Remote No.7 - Open Center Position Not Reached
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the internal spool of the #7 rear remote valve failed to reach the open center (neutral or float) position when commanded by the system. This is typically caused by a mechanical bind in the spool, incorrect hydraulic pressure, a defective internal position transducer (sensor), or a communication/software error.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Magnum
- Steiger T4B
- Magnum Series
- Steiger Series
- Puma Series
Check the cause
Check for Associated Codes: Look for other active EHR error codes (such as under/over voltage or CAN BUS errors) that might indicate a broader electrical issue.
Clear and Retest: Make a note of the error code, clear it using the electronic service tool or monitor, and test the system for normal operation to see if it is a hard fault or an intermittent glitch.
Hydraulic Pressure Check: Verify that the tractor has the correct hydraulic standby pressure, as incorrect pressure can prevent the spool from centering.
Harness & Connector Inspection: Inspect the CAN BUS wiring and electrical connectors at the #7 rear remote valve. Ensure the connectors are tight, pins are not damaged or pushed back, and there is no corrosion.
Repair steps
Cycle the System
Clear the code and cycle the #7 remote lever. If the code returns immediately, proceed to electrical testing.
Verify Wiring
Disconnect the harness at the #7 EHR valve. Check for continuity and verify that the CAN BUS communication lines and power/ground circuits between the remote valve and the central controller are intact. Repair any damaged wiring.
Software Reload / Calibration
If the wiring is good and hydraulic pressure is within spec, use the electronic service tool to download the correct level of software into the EHR valve and reconfigure/calibrate the valve.
Replace the Valve
If the fault is still present after a software reload and calibration attempt, the valve's internal position sensor or mechanical drive is defective. The EHR valve section must be removed and replaced.
Parts you might need
(3)Remanufactured Hydraulic Valve Assembly
87384974RCommon on Case IH Magnum series. EHR valve sections are highly specific to the machine's hydraulic configuration, flow rate, and series. Verify exact replacement part number with a Case IH dealer using the tractor's specific Product Identification Number (PIN). Requires software configuration and calibration after installation.
Remote Hydraulic Valve Assembly
186761A5Older Magnum series. EHR valve sections are highly specific to the machine's hydraulic configuration, flow rate, and series. Verify exact replacement part number with a Case IH dealer using the tractor's specific Product Identification Number (PIN). Requires software configuration and calibration after installation.
