Case IH 4338 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote / Electronic Hitch Record): Rear remote no. 8 - manually operated
Issue description
The system detects the rear remote control valve No. 8 is being operated manually, or there is a failure mode related to the manual operation/drive of that specific valve section.

Check the cause
Check for concurrent EHR error codes, note them, clear the codes, and test the system for normal operation.
Verify that the system has correct hydraulic pressure, as incorrect pressure is a primary failure mode.
Inspect electrical connections at the EHR valve and check CAN BUS wiring between the rear remotes and central controller for continuity, shorts, or damaged pins.
Repair steps
Inspect the Valve
Physically inspect Rear Remote Valve No. 8 to ensure the manual override/lever is not stuck, binding, or being inadvertently actuated.
Test the Harness
Disconnect the harness at the EHR valve and the ECU. Ensure the connectors are not damaged, the pins are in the correct position, and the fit is tight. Repair or replace the harness if continuity fails.
Software/Configuration Reset
If the wiring is intact but the valve is inoperative, reload the software into the central controller or perform the EHR valve renumbering/configuration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic menu.
Replace the Valve
If the fault is still present after software configuration and wiring checks, the EHR valve itself is faulty. Remove and replace the EHR valve section.
Calibrate
After installing a new valve, you must use the tractor's electronic service tool or in-cab diagnostic menu to configure and calibrate the new EHR valve section so the system recognizes it as Remote No. 8.
