Case IH 4343 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest Controller (AUX / TMF): Rear Remote No.5 - Lever Not Calibrated

Issue description

This code indicates that the control module has detected that the control lever (potentiometer) for Rear Remote Valve No. 5 has not been calibrated, or the calibration data in the controller's memory has been lost or corrupted.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Magnum Series
  • Steiger / Quadtrac Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • Puma Series
  • Optum Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the EHR lever was recently replaced, the controller was updated/replaced, or if the tractor experienced a severe battery drain (indicates a simple calibration is needed).

  2. Check power and ground connections to the EHR/Armrest controller. A loss of power or ground can corrupt calibration values (often accompanied by AUX 9029 memory error codes).

  3. Observe the lever's physical operation. If the remote shows a green cylinder light on the A-post when the lever is physically in the neutral position, the potentiometer is likely failing.

  4. Attempt the EHR lever calibration procedure. If the calibration fails, the code returns immediately, or the lever cannot find neutral, the lever potentiometer is faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Enter Calibration Mode

With the tractor engine off, hold the PROG (Program) key on the A-post display while turning the ignition key to the ON position.

  2. Navigate to the Menu

Use the navigation keys to find the ARM (Armrest) or EHR section, and select the calibration menu for Remote No. 5.

  3. Stroke the Lever

Follow the on-screen prompts. Typically, you will be required to: Pull the lever fully back (Raise/Retract detent), push the lever fully forward (Lower/Extend detent), and return the lever to the center (Neutral) position.

  4. Save the Calibration

Turn off the ignition key and wait at least 30 seconds before restarting the tractor. This allows the controller to write the new calibration values to memory.

  5. Test

Start the tractor and test the remote valve. If the fault code 4343 returns, or if the lever still registers as 'active' when in neutral, the lever assembly is defective and must be replaced.
