Case IH 4357 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller / TCU (Tractor Control Unit): EHR Implement Lower Error

Issue description

The lower delta depth is greater than 10% for more than 25 seconds. The system is commanding the implement to lower, but the feedback sensors indicate that the implement is not reaching the commanded depth or position within the expected timeframe.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum Series (235–340 Series 4, 245, 290)
  • Case IH Steiger & Quadtrac Series (350–600 HP models)
  • Case IH Maxxum Series (100–140 Multicontroller, MXM 120-190)
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Optum Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect Tractor Control Unit (TCU) connectors (C066 and C063) and the implement interface/potentiometer connector (C686) for firm connection, correct pin position, corrosion, or physical damage.

  2. Check the mechanical linkage connected to the implement position potentiometer for misadjusted, bent, or damaged components that could send false physical feedback.

  3. Test the implement potentiometer to verify the voltage sweeps smoothly.

  4. Inspect the EHR valve pilot head (mounted on top of the remote valve) to ensure it is not failing to reach neutral or float.

  5. Attempt an EHR calibration via the A-post display or Pro 700/1200 display to restore lost calibration parameters.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Electrical/Linkage Issues

If diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring at connectors C066, C063, or C686, repair the harness. If the linkage is bent, adjust or replace the mechanical linkage.

  2. Replace the Implement Potentiometer

If the potentiometer fails the voltage sweep test, remove and replace it, then recalibrate the hitch/remotes.

  3. Replace the EHR Pilot Head

If the wiring and sensors are good but the valve is physically failing to actuate the spool, remove the faulty pilot head from the top of the EHR valve body and install a new one. Note: Installing a new pilot head usually requires reassigning/configuring the valves using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to make the new module communicate properly.

  4. Replace the EHR Valve Section

If the internal spool in the valve body is worn or the valve is internally bypassing, the entire EHR valve section must be removed and replaced.

  5. Software Configuration and Calibration

After replacing the EHR valve or pilot head, you must download the correct level of software into the EHR valve and configure it using the dealer EST. Finally, perform a full roll calibration and EHR lever calibration so the system learns the new valve's flow limits and neutral set points.
