Case IH 4362 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Reverse Pump Control Valves (Directional) Solenoid Right (A) Supply Shorted To Ground
Issue description
The control module has detected that the electrical supply circuit (Circuit A) providing power to the right-hand reverse directional solenoid on the hydrostatic drive pump is shorted to ground. This prevents the right side of the machine from driving in reverse, typically caused by a chafed wire touching the frame, a melted harness, or an internal short within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the hydrostatic drive pump for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas where the harness rubs against the chassis or hydraulic lines.
Disconnect the harness at the right-hand reverse pump control solenoid and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent terminals.
Isolate the component: With the solenoid disconnected, turn the key ON and clear the codes. If the code changes from 'Shorted to Ground' (4362) to 'Open Circuit' (4361), the short is internal to the solenoid coil.
Perform a harness continuity test: If the code remains 'Shorted to Ground' (4362) with the solenoid unplugged, the short is in the wiring harness. Use a multimeter to test the supply wire for continuity to the chassis ground and trace the wire back to the UCM to locate the short.
Repair steps
Power Down
Park the machine on a level surface, lower the loader arms, turn off the engine, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Access the Pump
Tilt the cab or open the rear access panels (depending on the specific skid steer/track loader model) to gain access to the hydrostatic tandem drive pump.
Locate the Solenoid
Identify the right-hand reverse directional control solenoid on the pump block.
Address the Harness (If applicable)
If your diagnostics pointed to a harness issue, open the wire loom at the site of the short. Cut out the damaged section of the wire, solder in a new section of wire of the same gauge, and seal it with dual-wall adhesive heat shrink.
Replace the Solenoid (If applicable)
If the solenoid coil is internally shorted: Clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Remove the retaining nut holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the stem. Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem and torque the retaining nut to the manufacturer's specification (do not overtighten, or you may distort the valve spool).
Reassembly & Testing
Reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON, clear the UCM fault codes using the instrument cluster or Electronic Service Tool (EST), and test the machine's drive functions to verify the right side drives in reverse and the code does not return.
