Case IH 4372: Swashplate angle sensor - out of range high

Issue description

The control module is receiving a voltage or signal from the sensor that exceeds the maximum programmed threshold. This typically indicates an electrical issue such as a short circuit to power, an open circuit, a failed sensor, or a mechanical issue where the swashplate has physically traveled beyond its normal operating limit.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the sensor wiring harness and connectors (often located on the bottom of the hydrostatic pump and protected by steel covers) for damage, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Check the circuit for a short to battery power or an open circuit, which are the primary electrical causes of an 'out of range high' reading.

  3. Verify the battery voltage, as extremely high or low system voltage can sometimes trigger false sensor readings.

  4. Inspect the hydrostatic pump and swashplate linkage for mechanical binding or damage that might force the swashplate out of its normal position.

  1. Safely park the machine, turn off the engine, and relieve hydraulic pressure.
