Case IH 4382 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Reverse Pump Control Valves (Directional) Pumps Reverse Solenoid(s) Shorted To Ground

The electrical circuit supplying power to the reverse drive solenoid on the hydrostatic pump has a short to ground, preventing the solenoid from operating correctly and likely disabling reverse travel functions.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the UCM to the hydrostatic pump solenoids for rubbed, chafed, or pinched wires grounding against the chassis.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the reverse drive solenoid and use a multimeter to check the resistance of the solenoid coil. If it shows continuity to the ground/case, it is internally shorted.

   Inspect the UCM harness connectors for water intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit to a ground pin.

   Locate the Solenoids

   Locate the reverse drive solenoids, which are mounted on the electro-hydraulic hydrostatic pump. The left-hand reverse and forward solenoids are typically located near the auxiliary pump.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Remove the Connector

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty reverse solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Unscrew the retaining cap/nut on the end of the valve body that holds the solenoid coil in place.

   Swap the Coil

   Slide the shorted solenoid coil off the valve stem.

   Install the New Part

   Place the new solenoid coil onto the valve body.

   Secure

   Screw the retaining cap back onto the valve body and tighten it securely.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery and use a diagnostic service tool (or DTC eraser) to clear the 4382 code from the UCM memory. Test the machine's reverse function.
