Case IH 449 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Fuel Pressure level has exceeded the warning limit
Issue description
Injector Metering Rail Number 1 Pressure - Data Valid But Above Normal Operating Range - Most Severe Level. The fuel rail pressure has spiked significantly higher than the commanded pressure, which can cause the mechanical fuel pressure relief valve (PRV) to pop open to protect the system.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- MX Magnum
- STX Steiger
- TG Series
- 2377
- 2388
- 5088
- 6088
- 7088
Check the cause
Perform a fuel restriction and aeration test to ensure air is not being sucked into the fuel system through a bad fitting or line.
Measure the gear pump pressure at the outlet of the pressure-side fuel filter and measure the inlet restriction at the OEM connection point.
Verify the rail fuel pressure sensor reads in-range (0 ± 40 bar / 0 ± 580 psi at rest) and inspect the sensor signal wire and connector pins for dirt, damage, or shorts.
Inspect the electronic fuel control actuator (FCA / MPROP) and its harness connector pins for damage. Check the O-rings on the actuator for tearing. Monitor fuel rail pressure at idle to see if it deviates more than 200 bar (2901 psi) and causes surging.
Inspect the ECM-to-ground strap for a clean, tight connection.
Repair steps
Resolve Low-Pressure/Aeration Issues
If air is found in the fuel or restriction is high, replace the fuel filters and repair any leaking suction fittings.
Replace the Fuel Pump Actuator
If the rail pressure sensor is reading correctly but the pressure is actually surging out of control, the fuel pump actuator is likely sticking. Remove the actuator from the high-pressure fuel pump, lubricate the O-rings on the new actuator, and install it.
Replace the Fuel Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)
Once the root cause (usually the actuator) is fixed, the PRV must be replaced because it rarely reseats properly after blowing open.
Clear Codes
Connect the electronic service tool, disable the fault code, clear inactive counts, and test run the machine to verify the rail pressure matches the commanded pressure.
Parts you might need
(4)High-Pressure Fuel Pump Assembly (Remanufactured)
504188076Fits Case IH 9.0L engines 2010-2018. Often replaced as a complete unit if the actuator housing is damaged. Aftermarket equivalent: Tamerx HPP7389.
Fuel Pump Actuator / Electronic Fuel Control Actuator
Specific OEM part number varies heavily by exact pump CPL, usually sourced via Bosch or Cummins directly.
Fuel Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)
Mounts to the rear of the fuel rail.
Rail Fuel Pressure Sensor
Required if step 3 of diagnostics fails.
