Case IH 4500 – Primary Hydraulic Power System or Front EHR Controller: Front remote no. 1 - no control message received

CAN bus communication error indicating that the central vehicle controller is no longer receiving the expected data messages from the electronic control module mounted on the Front Remote Valve #1.

   Visually inspect the Front Remote Valve #1 wiring harness and connector for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture ingress.

   Check power and ground by disconnecting the harness from the valve, turning the key ON, and verifying steady battery voltage and a clean ground.

   Test CAN bus integrity by checking the CAN High and CAN Low lines at the valve connector for continuity back to the EHR controller, ensuring no short circuits to ground or to each other.

   Check for accompanying codes like 4501 (implausible control message) or 4502 (EEPROM error). If 4502 is present, the valve's internal circuit board has failed.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements (including the front hitch/loader) to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the mid-mount/front remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty Front Remote #1 valve slice. Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to this specific valve section. Cap all lines and ports immediately.

   Remove the Valve

   Remove the tie-rods holding the valve stack together (if it is a multi-slice block) and carefully extract the faulty valve section.

   Install the New Valve

   Install the replacement electro-hydraulic valve slice, ensuring all O-rings between the slices are new and properly seated. Torque the tie-rods to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   Reconnect the battery. You must use a diagnostic tool (such as the Case IH EST or Jaltest) or the tractor's onboard AFS Pro display to calibrate the new EHR valve. The system needs to learn the spool travel limits of the new component.

   Test

   Clear the fault codes and operate the front remote via the joystick to ensure smooth operation and verify that code 4500 does not return.
