Case IH 4501 – Front EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) control module: Front remote no. 1 - control message not plausible
Issue description
Indicates a communication or signal error where the control module is receiving data from the joystick or control lever that falls outside the expected or logical parameters for the front remote valve's operation.

Check the cause
Ensure the joystick or lever controlling Front Remote No. 1 is in the absolute neutral position at key-on to rule out position-related triggers
Inspect the CAN bus wiring harness between the Multicontroller armrest/joystick and the Front EHR valve module for rubbed wires, corrosion, or bent pins
Verify the valve is receiving proper voltage, checking for companion codes like 4504 (undervoltage) or 4505 (overvoltage)
Access the tractor's H1 diagnostic menu and read the calibration data for the EHR valve to see if the potentiometer is reading erratically in neutral, raise, lower, or float positions
Repair steps
Harness & Connector Repair
If diagnostic checks reveal damaged wiring or corroded pins at the Front EHR valve #1 connector or the joystick harness, repair or replace the affected wiring segment. Clear the codes and retest.
Component Isolation
If the wiring is intact, the fault lies either in the sending unit (the joystick/control lever in the cab) or the receiving unit (the EHR valve slice itself).
Replace the Faulty Component
If the EHR valve slice has suffered an internal electronic failure (often accompanied by EEPROM error code 4502), remove the valve stack tie-bolts, remove the faulty Front Remote No. 1 slice, and install the replacement EHR valve.
EHR System Calibration
After replacing the valve or the control lever, you must recalibrate the EHR system. Park on a flat surface, set the parking brake, and ensure the hydraulic oil is at operating temperature. Enter the tractor's H1 diagnostic menu for the EHR subsystem and follow the on-screen prompts to calibrate the neutral, extend, retract, and float positions for the newly installed valve.
