4502

Case IH 4502 – EHR Controller: Front Remote 1 EEPROM Error

Issue description

This code indicates that the internal memory (EEPROM) inside the electronic control head of the #1 front remote valve is corrupted or has failed. The system's CAN bus receives a MID EHR1_DIAGNOSTIC message indicating the valve's configuration memory is unreadable or invalid.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Steiger series
  • Magnum / MX series
  • Puma
  • Maxxum
  • Optum

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the power: Turn the key switch off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on. If the code was caused by a temporary voltage drop during a previous calibration, a reboot might clear it.

  2. Inspect wiring: Check the wiring harness and connector at the #1 front remote valve. A loss of power or ground to the valve's electronic driver can sometimes trigger a false memory/EEPROM error.

  3. Attempt recalibration: Enter the tractor's H-Menu (or use the Case IH EST diagnostic tool) and attempt to recalibrate the remote valves. A successful recalibration will overwrite the corrupt data and clear the code.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the system

Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is lowered, and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.

  2. Access the valve stack

Remove the rear/front cover plates to access the front remote valve stack.

  3. Remove the faulty valve

Disconnect the electrical harness from the #1 front remote. Remove the tie bolts/nuts holding the valve stack together and carefully slide the #1 remote valve out of the stack.

  4. Install the replacement

Install the new remote valve (or replacement electronic driver head, if serviced separately). Reinstall the tie bolts and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the wiring harness.

  5. Calibrate the new valve

A new valve must be calibrated to the tractor so the EHR controller can learn its flow threshold currents. Depending on the series, do this via the instrument cluster (holding PROG key while turning key on) or via the Case IH EST laptop. Note: Some Magnum/MX models require a special Case IH calibration tool (Part # 380001903).

  6. Clear codes

Exit the calibration menu properly, cycle the key, and verify that fault code 4502 has been cleared.
