Case IH 4505 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest Controller: Front remote no. 1 - over voltage
Issue description
The control module is receiving a voltage signal from the Front Remote Valve #1 circuit that is higher than the acceptable maximum threshold (typically > 4.5V on a 5V reference circuit). This usually points to a short to power (either 12V or 5V), an open ground circuit on the sensor, or an internally shorted spool position transducer/potentiometer on the valve itself.

Check the cause
Use the tractor's built-in H-Menu (specifically the H9 Voltmeter diagnostic menu) or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to monitor the live voltage value of Front Remote #1.
Locate the front remote valve stack and visually inspect the wiring harness and connector at Front Remote #1 for rubbed wires, pinched harnesses, moisture intrusion, or bent pins.
Perform a circuit isolation test by disconnecting the electrical connector at the remote valve's spool position transducer. If the live voltage reading drops to 0V, the transducer itself is internally shorted. If the voltage remains high, there is a short to power in the wiring harness.
Use a multimeter to check the connector for a proper 5V reference and a clean ground. Measure the signal wire to ensure it isn't shorted to the 12V supply.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to protect the CAN-bus modules.
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to power in the harness, trace the wire back from the valve to the EHR module. Splice and repair the damaged section using weather-sealed connectors, or replace the pigtail.
Valve / Transducer Replacement
If the sensor is internally shorted, remove the faulty spool position transducer from Front Remote #1. (Note: On many Bosch Rexroth EHR valves used by Case IH, the transducer is not serviced separately, requiring the replacement of the entire remote valve slice/section).
Reassembly
Install the new valve slice or sensor. Torque mounting bolts to OEM spec and reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the EST or the tractor's H8/HC menu to clear the stored 4505 fault code and reset the EEPROM values.
Calibration
You must perform a remote valve calibration using the EST or the tractor's display monitor. This allows the EHR controller to learn the new valve's specific neutral, full-extend, and full-retract voltage limits.
