Case IH 4506 – XCM processor: Front remote no. 1 - spool movement too low

The internal spool of the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve is not traveling the expected distance, or the feedback signal is lower than the commanded position.

   Verify that the tractor's hydraulic charge/pilot pressure is correct, as incorrect pressure can prevent the spool from moving fully

   Inspect the pilot head mounted on top of the remote valve, which is the most common cause of this fault

   Check for erratic flow (especially when running hydraulic motors) which may indicate a worn main spool, referencing service bulletin SB 2012-037

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the remote valve stack before disassembly. Contamination is the leading cause of immediate hydraulic valve failure.

   Relieve Pressure

   Ensure the tractor is off and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system.

   Remove the Pilot Head

   Unbolt and remove the faulty pilot head actuator from the top of front remote valve #1.

   Replace Seals

   Remove the old O-rings at the slice/pilot head interface and install new ones.

   Install New Pilot Head

   Mount the new pilot head onto the valve body and torque the fasteners to OEM specifications.

   Reassign Valve Addresses

   Because the pilot head contains its own electronics on the CAN BUS, you must reassign the valve addresses (renumber the EHR valves) using the tractor's display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST) so the controller knows which lever controls the new valve head.

   Calibrate the Valve

   Perform the EHR calibration procedure (often found in the tractor's "H-Menu", e.g., H1 calibration) to tune the new valve for proper function and spool travel limits.
