Case IH 4510 – Front Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves (EHR) Controller: Front remote no. 1 - driver faulty
Issue description
Malfunction in the electrical driver circuit, pilot head, or actuator that controls the spool movement for the #1 front electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve. The system detects that the valve spool cannot properly achieve or maintain its commanded position (often failing to reach neutral at startup).
Applies to these machines

- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Steiger
- Case IH Magnum
- Case IH Puma

- Case IH Optum
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the remote hydraulic controller and the front remote valve for damaged wires, bent pins, or dislocated pins in the connectors.
Perform an isolation test by swapping the pilot head/actuator or the electrical coil from Front Remote #1 to Front Remote #2 to see if the fault follows the component.
Ensure the remote hydraulic controller has proper power (12V) and a clean ground connection.
Check the resistance of the solenoid coil on the #1 remote valve to ensure it is within the specified OEM range and not shorted to ground or power.
Attempt to recalibrate the remote valves via the tractor's display (EHR CAL screen).
Repair steps
Depressurize and Power Down
Lower all implements to the ground, relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Valve Stack
Locate the front remote valve stack. Clean the area around the #1 remote valve thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Remove the Faulty Component
If diagnostics pointed to the wiring, repair or replace the damaged harness section. If the pilot head/actuator is faulty, disconnect the electrical connector, unbolt the pilot head from the valve body, and carefully remove it.
Install the New Part
Install the updated pilot head/actuator or complete valve section. Ensure all O-rings and seals are properly seated.
Reassemble and Power Up
Reconnect the electrical harness and reconnect the battery.
EHR Valve Calibration
Turn the key on and navigate to the tractor's configuration menu. Enter the EHR CAL (calibration) screen. Select the #1 front remote valve and initiate the calibration sequence so the controller can learn the new spool's neutral and end-stop positions.
Clear Codes
Clear the stored 4510 fault code from the controller's memory (often done via the H8 menu operation) and test the remote for proper operation.
