Case IH 4516 – Steering / Remote Valve Controller: Front remote no. 2 – EEPROM error
Issue description
The controller has detected a memory fault within its Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) specifically affecting the operation, calibration, or parameters of the second front remote hydraulic valve.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Puma Series (115, 125, 140, 155, 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX, Multicontroller)
- Case IH Magnum / MX Series (MX210, MX230, MX255, MX285)
- Case IH Farmall Series (40, 45, 50, 115U)
Check the cause
Check Power Supply: Verify that the controller has not lost power unexpectedly (e.g., a disconnected battery), which can sometimes trigger temporary memory/EEPROM faults.
Check Potentiometer Readings: Access the diagnostic display and check the displayed potentiometer readings for the front remote valve during calibration to ensure the spool movement sensors are reading correctly.
Access the "H" Menu: Connect the special diagnostic tool (Part No. 380000843) to the diagnostic connector and turn the key start switch ON. The dot matrix display will show "HH MENU".
Attempt a Code Clear (HC Menu): Use the "HC" menu to erase all stored error codes without erasing the valve's calibration information. If the code returns immediately, the EEPROM data is corrupted.
Repair steps
Reset EEPROM to Default (H8 Menu)
Navigate to the "H8" menu on the controller. Performing an H8 operation clears all stored calibration values and error codes by resetting all EEPROM values back to their factory defaults.
Recalibrate the Valve
Because the H8 menu wipes the memory, you must perform a full calibration of the front remote valves (and potentially the steering proximity sensors, depending on the shared controller architecture).
Test Spool Movement
After calibration, test Front Remote No. 2 to ensure it reaches float position and does not trigger related spool movement codes (such as 4520 or 4521).
Replace the Valve Section / Controller
If the EEPROM error cannot be overwritten or fails to hold calibration data after a power cycle, the electronic control module on the remote valve section has suffered a hard internal failure and the valve section must be replaced.
