Case IH 4517 – Primary Hydraulic Power System / Front Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves (EHR) / Mid-mount remote control valve: Front remote no. 2 – switched to failsafe

The Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve for the front/mid-mount remote #2 has detected an internal or external anomaly. To prevent unintended hydraulic movement or damage, the system has disabled the valve and forced it into a "failsafe" mode.

   Check for primary codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or onboard HH diagnostic menu (look for accompanying codes 4518–4527).

   Clear all error codes from the system and retest the remote valve for normal operation.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the front remote valve #2 for damaged wires, pushed-out pins, or corrosion if voltage or driver fault codes return alongside 4517.

   Address Accompanying Codes

   If other codes returned after clearing, diagnose and repair those specific circuits first (e.g., replacing a faulty in-cab remote switch/potentiometer if code 4525 is present).

   Software Flash

   If only error code 4517 is still displayed, the issue may be software corruption. Use the CNH EST to download the correct level of software to the EHR valve and reconfigure it.

   Replace the Valve Section

   If the fault re-occurs after a software flash and reconfiguration, the internal sensors or pilot head of the EHR valve section have failed.

   Removal

   Relieve all hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the electrical harness from Front Remote No. 2. Unbolt the faulty EHR valve slice from the hydraulic stack.

   Installation

   Install the replacement EHR valve section and torque the tie-bolts to spec.

   Calibration

   You must use the EST or the tractor's HH menu to configure and calibrate the new EHR valve section before it will operate.
