Case IH 4518 – Front Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves controller: Front remote no. 2 - under voltage
Issue description
The electronic controller is receiving a voltage signal from the front electronic hydraulic remote valve #2 (specifically its internal potentiometer or driver) that has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225, CVX)
- Steiger series
- Magnum series
- Maxxum series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to front remote valve #2 for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.
Use the tractor's diagnostic display to check the live potentiometer reading for front remote #2 during calibration.
Enter the tractor's 'H' menu (diagnostic menu) using the special diagnostic tool or cab buttons. Navigate to the 'HC' or 'HJ' menu (EEhr) to clear stored error codes and reset the EEPROM values back to default. Attempt to recalibrate the valve to determine if the under-voltage code is a hard fault or an intermittent glitch.
Repair steps
Turn the key start switch OFF and ensure there is no power to the controller (disconnect the battery if necessary).
Disconnect the wiring harness from front remote valve #2.
Clean the connector pins with electrical contact cleaner and verify that the pins are not pushed back into the connector housing.
Using a multimeter, verify the supply voltage and ground at the harness connector.
If the voltage is low, trace the wiring harness back to the controller to locate and repair any shorts, breaks, or high-resistance areas.
Remove and replace the defective remote valve potentiometer or the entire electronic remote valve slice.
Perform this step if the wiring harness and supply voltage test good, indicating the fault is internal to the valve's electronics (potentiometer or driver).
Reconnect the harness to the valve and turn the key start switch ON.
Access the 'H' menu on the dot matrix display, clear the old fault codes, and perform the electronic remote valve calibration procedure so the controller can learn the parameters of the new component.
