Case IH 4519 – CCM (Central Control Module) or EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) controller: Front remote no. 2 – over voltage
Issue description
The electronic control system is receiving a voltage signal from the spool position potentiometer on Front Remote Valve #2 that is higher than the acceptable maximum threshold. This condition is typically caused by a short to power in the sensor signal wire, an open ground circuit (which causes the reference voltage to pull high), or an internal failure of the valve's potentiometer/actuator head.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Case IH Puma Series
- Case IH Magnum Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
- Case IH Steiger Series
Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to Front Remote Valve #2 for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corrosion at the connector that could cause a short to power or an open ground.
Enter the tractor's 'H9' diagnostic menu (Voltmeter diagnostic) via the instrument cluster. Monitor the live voltage reading for Front Remote #2 while wiggling the wiring harness to check for sudden voltage spikes or drops.
Swap the electrical connector from Front Remote #2 to another known-good valve (like Front Remote #1). If the fault code changes to the corresponding code for the other valve (e.g., 4505), the issue is in the wiring harness or CCM. If the fault remains with the physical valve, the valve's internal potentiometer/actuator is faulty.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Access the Valve
Locate the front remote valve stack and thoroughly clean the area around Front Remote #2 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken ground or shorted signal wire, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.
Actuator Replacement
If the potentiometer is internally shorted, remove the retaining screws holding the electronic actuator head to the hydraulic spool valve body. Remove the faulty actuator and install the new replacement unit.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness to the valve. Reconnect the tractor battery.
Clear Error Codes
Turn the key ON. Access the 'H8' or 'HC' menu on the instrument cluster to clear stored EEPROM error codes.
Valve Re-assignment/Calibration
Access the 'HJ' menu to clear the stored valve numbers (the display will show 'CEhr' when cleared). Turn the key OFF, then perform the standard EHR valve calibration procedure so the CCM can relearn the neutral, extend, and retract potentiometer limits for the new valve.
Parts you might need
(1)Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve Actuator / Spool Position Potentiometer Head
Part numbers vary heavily depending on the exact tractor model, hydraulic pump capacity, and whether the tractor has standard or high-flow hydraulics. Reference the specific Case IH parts catalog for your exact serial number.
