Case IH 4521 – CCM (Chassis Control Module) or MTA (Multi-Controller Armrest) / EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) controller: Front remote no. 2 - spool movement too high
Issue description
The electro-hydraulic actuator for the #2 front remote valve is detecting that the internal spool is traveling further or faster than commanded by the controller, which usually points to a failing position sensor (potentiometer), a faulty actuator driver, or a mechanical issue within the valve spool itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the Wiring and Connectors: Check the wiring harness between the Chassis Control Module and the #2 front remote valve actuator. Look for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause erratic voltage signals to the position sensor.
Test the Potentiometer: The spool position is monitored by a potentiometer. Test the resistance/voltage sweep of the sensor to see if there are dead spots or erratic readings causing the 'movement too high' logic.
Check for Mechanical Binding: Contamination in the hydraulic fluid can cause the valve spool to stick or jump. Manually actuate the spool (if possible on your specific valve block) to check for smooth operation.
Check for Related Codes: Look for accompanying codes such as 4524 (driver faulty), 4525 (potentiometer faulty), or 4526 (unable to reach neutral), which will help isolate the electrical side of the valve.
Repair steps
Depressurize the System
Turn off the tractor, lower any front attachments to the ground, and cycle the remote levers/joystick to relieve residual hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the battery.
Locate the Valve Block
Locate the front remote valve stack (often mid-mounted or at the front depending on if the tractor is equipped with a front hitch/loader). Identify the #2 valve section.
Remove the Actuator/Sensor Cap
Carefully disconnect the electrical connector to the #2 remote valve actuator.
Replace the Potentiometer/Actuator
If diagnostics point to the sensor, unbolt the electronic actuator head/potentiometer from the mechanical valve body. Install the new sensor/actuator assembly.
Clean and Reseal (If Mechanical)
If the spool itself is damaged or sticking, the specific valve section will need to be removed from the stack, disassembled, cleaned, and resealed. In many cases, the entire valve section is replaced as a unit.
Calibrate the Remotes
After replacing the potentiometer, actuator, or valve section, you must perform a remote valve calibration using the tractor's integrated display (e.g., AFS Pro monitor) or a dealer diagnostic tool so the controller can learn the new neutral, extend, and retract limits.
