Case IH 4523 – CCM (Central Control Module) / APH (Auxiliary Power Hub) / Electro-hydraulic remote valve controller: Front remote no. 2 - manually operated
Issue description
The system detects that the spool for the front remote valve #2 has moved from its neutral position without receiving an electronic command from the operator's controls. This is most commonly caused by physical activation of the manual override lever, but can also be falsely triggered by a failing spool position sensor, a mechanically stuck spool, or a wiring fault.

Check the cause
Verify that the manual override lever on front remote valve #2 has not been accidentally engaged or bumped (ensure it is resting fully in the neutral/electronic control position)
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the front remote #2 valve for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or wire chafing that could cause a short or open circuit
Check for related fault codes (e.g., 4524 driver faulty, 4525 potentiometer faulty, or 4526 unable to reach neutral) to isolate hardware failures
With the tractor off and hydraulic pressure relieved, check if the manual override lever moves freely to rule out a mechanically stuck spool
Attempt to run a spool travel calibration via the tractor's diagnostic menu
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the engine, lower all implements to the ground, and cycle the hydraulic levers to relieve residual system pressure.
Reset the Override
If the manual override was engaged, simply return it to the neutral position, cycle the tractor's key, and clear the fault code.
Clean Contacts
If the code persists, disconnect the harness from the front remote #2 actuator. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and reconnect.
Replace the Potentiometer/Actuator
If the spool position sensor is sending an erratic signal (and the spool is not physically stuck), the potentiometer or the entire electronic driver head on the valve must be replaced.
Address a Stuck Spool
If the spool is mechanically seized, the valve slice must be removed from the stack, disassembled, and inspected for scoring or debris. If the bore is scored, the entire valve section must be replaced.
Recalibrate
After replacing any hydraulic components or sensors, you must perform a remote valve spool travel calibration so the controller can learn the new neutral, extend, and retract limits.
