4524

Case IH 4524 – Central Control Module (CCM) or Front Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves controller: Front remote no. 2 - driver faulty

Issue description

The control module has detected an electrical failure, open circuit, short, or internal hardware fault within the proportional actuator (driver) that physically moves the spool for the #2 front hydraulic remote valve.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225, CVX)
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH MX / TG Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the front remote valve #2 actuator for rubbed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Perform an A/B swap test by swapping the electrical connector of the #2 front remote actuator with the #1 or #3 front remote actuator. If the fault code changes to the new position, the actuator has failed. If the code remains 4524, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the control module.

  3. Check for mechanical binding to ensure the valve spool itself is not mechanically stuck, which can cause the actuator to overload and throw a driver fault.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons in the cab.

  2. Disconnect

Unplug the 4-pin electrical connector from the faulty front remote #2 actuator.

  3. Removal

Remove the mounting bolts (typically Allen head) securing the actuator to the hydraulic valve body. Carefully pull the actuator straight back to disengage it from the valve spool.

  4. Clean and Prep

Clean the mounting surface on the valve body, ensuring no dirt enters the hydraulic system. Remove the old O-rings/seals and install new ones.

  5. Installation

Align the new actuator with the valve spool and press it firmly into place. Install and tighten the mounting bolts to the OEM torque specification.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the new actuator.

  7. Calibration

Turn the key on. You must use the tractor's display monitor (e.g., Pro 700 / AFS) or a dealer service tool to clear the stored fault codes and perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration. This teaches the controller the neutral, extend, and retract limits of the new actuator.
