Case IH 4525 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest Controller (ARM): Front remote no. 2 - potentiometer faulty

The control system is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical voltage signal from the potentiometer responsible for the #2 front electro-hydraulic remote (EHR). This sensor monitors the position of the remote valve spool or the operator's command lever. When this fails, the tractor cannot verify if the remote is in the neutral, extend, or retract position, often resulting in the remote being locked out or switched to a fail-safe mode.

   Verify that the #2 front remote lever/switch on the armrest physically returns to the center/neutral position without binding.

   Turn the key ON and check the A-post display; if the green cylinder light remains illuminated when the lever is physically in neutral, the potentiometer is failing or has lost its calibration.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the armrest lever and at the front remote valve block for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.

   Attempt an EHR calibration via the A-post display before replacing parts (Hold PROG key while turning ignition ON, navigate to ARM, follow prompts).

   Power down the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Disassemble the armrest console casing to access the EHR remote lever switches (the fault is most commonly traced to the command potentiometer in the armrest rather than the valve block itself).

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the #2 front remote switch/potentiometer.

   Remove the retaining hardware (often a 3/8-32 nut or small hex set screws) and extract the faulty potentiometer or the entire lever switch assembly.

   Install the new potentiometer or switch assembly and secure the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect the electrical harness and reassemble the armrest console. Reconnect the battery.

   You must perform the EHR calibration procedure (via the A-post display or the Case IH Electronic Service Tool) so the Armrest Controller can learn the new minimum, maximum, and neutral voltage values of the new potentiometer.
