Case IH 4527 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller or Armrest Controller / AUX Remote Valve Controller: Front remote no. 2 - spool not in neutral at key on

When the tractor's ignition is turned on, the control module detects that the spool valve for the #2 front remote is not in its centered (neutral) position. This is usually caused by the potentiometer reading a voltage outside the programmed neutral deadband, a physically stuck spool, or a joystick/lever that has not returned to the center.

   Check the joystick or remote lever for Front Remote No. 2 in the cab to ensure it physically returns to the center/neutral position freely and is not obstructed by debris or a worn detent.

   Access the tractor's diagnostic menu (often referred to as the 'H menu' or 'HH menu' on the dot matrix display, which sometimes requires special diagnostic tool 380000843) to view the live potentiometer voltage reading for the front remote #2 spool to see if it is resting outside the neutral limit.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors directly at the front remote valve block for water ingress, corrosion, or damaged pins that could cause an implausible voltage reading.

   Check if the spool itself is mechanically sticking inside the valve block due to hydraulic fluid contamination, wear, or a failed internal centering spring.

   Turn the key switch to the OFF position

   Ensure the tractor is safely parked with all hydraulic pressure relieved.

   Rule out a stuck joystick.

   Locate the valve slice

   Locate the Front Remote No. 2 valve slice on the front hydraulic block.

   Inspect and clean the wiring harness

   Disconnect the wiring harness at the potentiometer for this specific valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and inspect for damage. Reconnect and cycle the key to see if the code clears.

   Replace the potentiometer

   If the code persists and the diagnostic menu shows an out-of-range voltage, the potentiometer on the spool valve has likely failed. Remove the mounting screws holding the potentiometer to the valve slice and install a new one.

   If the spool itself is physically jammed and cannot be moved by hand (or does not spring back), the valve slice will need to be disassembled, cleaned, or entirely replaced.

   Once the new potentiometer or valve is installed, you must perform the EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) calibration procedure via the tractor's display to teach the controller the new neutral, extend, and retract voltage limits.
