4529

Case IH 4529 – Front Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valves controller (EHR controller): Front remote no. 3 - control message not plausible

Issue description

The controller for the number 3 front electro-hydraulic remote (EHR) valve is receiving a CAN bus signal or command that is corrupted, logically invalid, or outside of expected operating parameters.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225, 240, CVX)
  • Steiger series
  • Maxxum series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the electrical connector at the front remote #3 EHR valve for moisture, corrosion, or pushed/damaged pins.

  2. Test the CAN BUS wiring harness leading to the valve for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power.

  3. Check for sources of CAN BUS electrical interference.

  4. Clear the error code using the tractor's display or an Electronic Service Tool (EST) and test the system for normal operation to see if the code is an active hard fault or an intermittent glitch.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve pressure, and disconnect the battery.

Ensure the machine is safe to work on by relieving hydraulic pressure and removing power.

  2. Locate the front remote valve stack and identify the actuator for remote #3.

Identify the correct valve actuator for the number 3 front remote.

  3. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EHR valve.

Prepare the connector for inspection and cleaning.

  4. Clean the connector contacts thoroughly with electrical contact cleaner and check the wiring harness for any chafing, repairing any damaged wires found.

Remove any corrosion or debris and fix any physical damage to the wiring.

  5. Reconnect the harness securely.

Ensure a solid electrical connection is made.

  6. Restore battery power, turn the key on, and clear the fault codes.

Power the system back up and reset the codes to test the repair.

  7. Operate the front remote #3 via the cab joystick or armrest switch.

Test the functionality of the remote to see if the issue is resolved.

  8. If fault code 4529 returns immediately and the wiring harness/CAN bus integrity has been confirmed to be good, the EHR valve actuator has an internal failure and must be replaced.

Replace the EHR valve actuator if wiring is good but the fault persists.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve / Spool Valve Actuator

Ensure the replacement valve is specifically configured for the front remote stack. After replacing an EHR valve, the new valve will likely require calibration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) so the tractor's main controller can learn the new spool movement limits.
