Case IH 4530 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Valve Electronic Module: Front remote no. 3 - EEPROM error

Issue description

Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) inside the electronic module for the #3 front remote valve is corrupted, experiencing a memory error, or has lost its calibration data.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma (e.g., 165, 180, 195, 210, 225 CVX)
  • Case IH Steiger
  • Case IH Magnum (MX / TG series)
  • Case IH Maxxum
  • Case IH Farmall (e.g., 115U Pro EP)

Check the cause

  1. Check Battery/Voltage: Ensure the tractor's battery voltage is stable. A disconnected battery or low voltage can sometimes trigger EEPROM faults.

  2. Access the 'H' Menu (Diagnostics): Connect the special diagnostic tool/switch (e.g., tool No. 380000843 or 380000488) to the diagnostic connector and turn the key start switch to the ON position.

  3. Clear Stored Codes: Navigate to the HC menu to erase all stored error codes without erasing calibration information.

  4. Reset EEPROM: If the code persists, navigate to the H8 menu. This operation clears calibration values and stored error codes by resetting all EEPROM values back to their factory defaults.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic pressure from the front remote circuits.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify Front Remote Valve No. 3 on the front hydraulic valve stack.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the EHR valve module. Inspect the harness for any shorts to ground or power that could have caused the module to short out.

  4. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty EHR valve from the front remote manifold stack.

  5. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement EHR valve and torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

  6. Reprogram / Calibrate

Turn the key ON and enter the diagnostic mode. You will need to use the HL menu (EHR Valve Number Reprogramming) to assign the correct position number (No. 3) to the new valve so the tractor's CAN bus recognizes it.

  7. Final Calibration

Perform a full hydraulic remote valve calibration to teach the new EEPROM the correct spool travel limits.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve / Front Remote Valve Slice

Ensure you are purchasing the valve slice designated for the front linkage/remote stack, as rear remote valves may have different flow compensators or physical orientations.
