Case IH 4532 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) controller: Front remote no. 3 - under voltage

Issue description

The voltage signal returning from the front hydraulic remote valve #3 (specifically its position potentiometer or actuator) has dropped below the minimum acceptable threshold, indicating a short to ground in the wiring harness, a failed potentiometer, or a disconnected/corroded electrical connector.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Puma Series
  • Magnum Series
  • Maxxum Series
  • Steiger Series
  • CVX Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector at the front remote #3 valve for physical damage, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

  2. Perform the 'Swap' Test by swapping the electrical connector from front remote #3 with an adjacent remote (e.g., #2 or #4) to isolate whether the fault is in the valve or the tractor's wiring.

  3. Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu (H9 - Voltmeter diagnostic menu) to monitor the live voltage of the remote valve channel (a reading of zero confirms a dead short or open circuit).

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the key and disconnect the battery to prevent damage to the EHR/UCM controllers.

  2. Harness Repair

If the swap test indicated a wiring issue, trace the harness from the front remote #3 valve back to the controller. Repair any chafed wires or replace the connector pigtail if corroded.

  3. Valve/Potentiometer Replacement

If the swap test proved the valve actuator is faulty, remove the retaining screws holding the electronic actuator head/potentiometer to the mechanical valve body. Install the new actuator head or potentiometer.

  4. Clear Fault Codes

Reconnect the battery. Enter the tractor's H8 Menu (Clear stored calibration/faults) to erase the stored 4532 error code from the EEPROM.

  5. Recalibrate

Perform the EHR remote valve calibration procedure using the tractor's display or calibration menu to ensure the controller learns the new potentiometer's neutral, extend, and retract voltage limits.
