Case IH 4533 – CCM (Central Control Module) or EHR (Electronic Hitch/Remote) Controller: Front remote no. 3 - over voltage
Issue description
The electronic control module is receiving a voltage signal from the spool position sensor (potentiometer) on the front remote valve #3 that exceeds the maximum allowable threshold. This is typically caused by a short to power in the signal wire, an open ground circuit, or an internal failure of the valve's potentiometer.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at front remote valve #3 for rubbed-through wires, corrosion, water ingress, or pushed-out pins.
Perform a Harness vs. Valve Test by swapping the electrical connector from front remote #3 with an adjacent, known-good remote valve (e.g., #1 or #2). If the fault code changes to the new valve number, the failure is internal to the valve actuator. If code 4533 remains, the issue is in the wiring harness or CCM.
Using a multimeter, check the ground circuit at the valve connector. A broken or highly resistant ground will cause the sensor's signal voltage to pull high. Also check the signal wire for a short to 5V or 12V power.
Enter the tractor's diagnostic menu (e.g., 'H9' Voltmeter menu) to monitor the live voltage reading of the remote valve potentiometer while manually moving the spool or wiggling the harness to check for sudden voltage spikes.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks isolated a harness issue, repair the broken ground or shorted signal wire. Splice in a new connector pigtail if the connector housing is damaged or corroded.
Replace the Valve Actuator
If the fault is internal to the valve, remove the retaining bolts holding the electronic actuator head (stepper motor/potentiometer assembly) to the mechanical valve slice. Install the new actuator head. (Note: On some specific Bosch Rexroth or Danfoss valve blocks, the entire valve slice may need to be replaced if the actuator is not serviced separately).
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. Enter the CCM diagnostic menu (e.g., the 'H8' or 'HC' menu) to clear the stored EEPROM error codes.
Calibrate the Valve
Perform the remote valve calibration procedure. This allows the controller to learn the new potentiometer voltage limits for the neutral, extend, and retract positions. Failure to calibrate will result in spool movement errors.
