Case IH 4534 – Auxiliary Valve Control Module / Armrest Controller (Electronic Hydraulic Remote or EHR controller): Front remote no. 3 - spool movement too low
Issue description
The electronic controller commanded the spool valve for the 3rd front hydraulic remote to move, but the position sensor (potentiometer) on the valve detected that the spool did not travel the expected distance, or it moved too slowly to reach the target position.

Check the cause
Check the hydraulic fluid level and ensure the oil is at normal operating temperature, as cold, thick oil can cause slow spool movement and trigger false codes.
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at the front remote #3 valve for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins.
Perform a component swap test: swap the electronic actuator/potentiometer head from front remote #3 with a known good remote (such as front remote #1 or #2). If the fault code changes to follow the new location, the actuator/potentiometer is faulty. If the 4534 code remains on remote #3, the internal spool is likely mechanically binding inside the valve body, or there is a break in the wiring harness.
Attempt to recalibrate the remote valves using the tractor's display monitor or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the controller can relearn the spool's travel limits.
Repair steps
Relieve hydraulic pressure
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and cycle the remote levers/switches to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure.
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the negative battery cable for safety.
Locate valve section
Locate the front remote valve stack and identify the #3 valve section.
Disconnect wiring harness
Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the #3 remote valve actuator/potentiometer.
Remove retaining screws
Remove the retaining screws that secure the electronic actuator head to the hydraulic valve body.
Inspect mechanical spool
Carefully pull the actuator head off the valve. Inspect the exposed mechanical spool. Push and pull the spool manually to ensure it moves freely without binding. (If the spool is seized or heavily scored, the entire valve section must be replaced).
Install new actuator
If the spool moves freely, install the new electronic actuator/potentiometer assembly onto the valve body and torque the retaining screws to OEM specifications.
Reconnect electrical and battery
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery cable.
Calibrate remote valves
Start the tractor and warm up the hydraulic fluid. You must perform the remote valve calibration procedure via the tractor's Pro 700/Afs Connect monitor or the CNH EST software so the module can learn the new neutral, extend, and retract positions of the replacement sensor.
