Case IH 4535 – Remote Valve Controller / EHR Controller: Front remote no. 3 - spool movement too high
Issue description
The Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve spool for the front remote #3 has moved beyond its commanded position, or the position sensor (potentiometer) inside the valve's pilot head is returning a voltage/position value that is out of range (too high) for the commanded state.
Applies to these machines

- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector going to the front remote #3 valve for damaged wires, corrosion, or a short to power/ground that could cause a high voltage reading.
Perform an isolation test by swapping the pilot head from front remote #3 with a known good remote (like #1 or #2). If the fault code changes to the new remote's address, the pilot head is faulty. If the code remains 4535, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the controller.
Check for physical sticking or mechanical binding of the spool inside the valve body, which can cause the actuator to overcompensate.
Verify that the load sense lines and compensator valves are functioning correctly, as pressure imbalances can cause erratic spool movement.
Repair steps
Preparation
Lower all implements (including the front hitch) to the ground to relieve system pressure. Turn off the tractor and thoroughly clean the exterior of the remote valve assembly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnection
Disconnect the electrical connector to the front remote #3 pilot head.
Removal
Remove the screws holding the detent housing/pilot head on the bottom/end of the valve. Caution: When removing the housing, be careful not to lose or mix up the internal springs, as they are specific lengths.
Inspection
Pull the spool and detent assembly. Inspect the spool for scoring, wear, or broken springs. If the valve body is heavily scored, the entire remote valve section must be replaced.
Replacement
Install the new pilot head or spool assembly. Replace the detent piston seals/O-rings while the valve is open.
Calibration
After replacing the pilot head or valve, you must perform an EHR valve calibration. This reassigns the valve addresses so the controller knows which lever controls the valve and tunes the valve for proper flow. This is typically done using the tractor's Pro700 display or the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST).
