Case IH 4536 – EHR (Electro Hydraulic Remote) controller: Front remote no. 3 – float position not reached
Issue description
The internal spool for the third front remote valve failed to physically reach the 'float' position when commanded by the operator. This is typically caused by mechanical binding of the spool due to debris or scoring, a faulty electronic actuator/driver on the valve, or a defective position potentiometer failing to read the spool's actual location.

Check the cause
Observe the EHR diagnostic LEDs on the front remote #3 valve for flash codes indicating an internal fault.
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the front remote #3 valve for corrosion, pushed pins, or damage.
Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector from remote #3 to a working remote (e.g., #4). If the fault moves on the monitor, the issue is in the wiring or armrest control lever. If it remains at #3, the valve actuator or spool is faulty.
Check for mechanical binding by using the manual override capabilities on the valve to see if the spool moves freely by hand.
Test the potentiometer using the tractor's diagnostic menu (via A-post display or Pro monitor) to view live voltage/position readings for erratic or out-of-range values.
Repair steps
Preparation
Thoroughly clean the area around the front remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Depressurize
Relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system and turn off the tractor.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the front remote #3 valve.
Valve Removal/Disassembly
If the electronic actuator/potentiometer head is serviceable separately on your specific model, unbolt it from the valve body. If not, unbolt the tie-rods holding the valve stack together and carefully remove the #3 valve slice.
Inspection and Cleaning
Inspect the internal spool for scoring, burrs, or debris. Clean the spool and the valve bore. If the spool is heavily scored, the entire valve slice must be replaced.
Reassembly
Reassemble the valve stack using new O-rings between the slices. Torque the tie-rods to the manufacturer's specification.
Calibration
After replacing the valve or actuator, you must perform the EHR valve calibration and renumbering procedure using the tractor's display or the Electronic Service Tool (EST). This teaches the controller the new end-stops and float position limits of the spool.
