Case IH 4543 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Front remote No. 4 - Control message not plausible
Issue description
The control module is receiving a signal from the front remote #4 control lever (potentiometer) or via the CAN bus that is erratic, out of the expected voltage range, or does not match the expected operational parameters.

Check the cause
Monitor potentiometer readings using the onboard diagnostic display (H-Menu) or Electronic Service Tool (EST) to ensure the signal changes smoothly without dropping out or spiking
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the armrest control lever/joystick and the EHR controller for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/corroded pins
Check for related fault codes (e.g., 4542, 4546, or 4547) that might indicate a broader electrical or CAN bus issue
Attempt to run the Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration procedure to correct a drifted sensor
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery if you will be repairing wiring or replacing electronic components.
Access the Control Console
Remove the necessary trim panels on the armrest or side console to access the electro-hydraulic remote control levers/joystick.
Wiring Repair
If your diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or poor pin fitment at the connector for remote #4, repair the harness or replace the connector pigtail.
Replace the Potentiometer/Lever
If the wiring is intact but the signal is still implausible (or calibration fails), the potentiometer inside the lever assembly has failed. Remove the retaining hardware for the front remote #4 lever/switch assembly, disconnect the electrical plug, and install the replacement unit.
Reassembly
Reinstall the armrest trim and reconnect the battery.
Recalibrate
Perform the Electro-Hydraulic Remote Valve Lever Calibration procedure. This allows the EHR controller to learn the new potentiometer's exact neutral, maximum extend, and maximum retract voltage values.
Clear and Test
Clear the stored fault codes and test the operation of the front remote #4 to ensure the code does not return.
