Case IH 4551 – Primary Hydraulic Power System: Front remote No.4 - manually operated

The system has detected that the spool for the front (mid-mount) remote valve #4 has moved or engaged without receiving an electronic command from the controller. This typically occurs if the valve was manually overridden, is physically stuck, or if a faulty position sensor (potentiometer) is sending an erroneous signal indicating that the spool has moved.

   Inspect the mid-mount remote #4 valve to ensure the manual override lever or spool is not physically stuck, obstructed by debris, or manually engaged.

   Verify that lever number 4 is resting completely in the neutral position.

   Check the system for related codes (such as 4552, 4553, 4554, or 4555) to isolate the issue to an electrical failure rather than a mechanical one.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the potentiometer (position sensor) on the #4 valve slice for damage or short circuits.

   Mechanical Reset

   Manually return the remote #4 lever/spool to the neutral position. Cycle the key switch to see if the code clears.

   Clean and Inspect

   Inspect the mechanical linkage on the electro-hydraulic valve. Clean away any dirt or debris that might be preventing the spool from centering properly.

   Component Testing

   If the spool is physically in neutral but the code persists, the potentiometer (position sensor) on the valve slice is likely failing and falsely reporting movement.

   Replacement

   Replace the faulty potentiometer or the entire remote valve slice, depending on the specific valve stack's serviceability.

   Recalibration (H Menu)

   Connect the special diagnostic tool (Case IH tool 380000843) to the diagnostic connector. Turn the key start switch ON. The dot matrix display will show 'HH MENU' indicating the 'H' menu is active. Navigate the menu to calibrate the electro-hydraulic remote valves. The new calibration values will be stored in the EEPROM.
