Case IH 4555 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Front remote No.4 - spool not in neutral at key on

When the tractor's ignition key is turned to the ON position, the system detects that the hydraulic spool valve for the 4th front remote (or its corresponding in-cab control lever/joystick) is not resting in its centered, neutral dead-band position.

   Verify that lever/joystick number 4 is physically resting in the neutral position before turning the key.

   Enter the tractor's diagnostic mode ('H Menu') to check the live potentiometer reading for front remote #4. Observe if the voltage/reading is fluctuating or sitting outside the programmed neutral range.

   Inspect the front remote #4 spool valve assembly on the front linkage for dirt, debris, or mechanical binding that might be preventing the spool from physically returning to center.

   Check the wiring harness and connector at the front remote #4 valve for corrosion, moisture, or wire chafing that could send an implausible signal to the EHR module.

   Reset the system

   Turn the tractor off. Ensure the front remote #4 control lever or joystick is completely centered. Turn the key back to the ON position. If the code clears, no further repair is needed.

   Clean and inspect valve block

   If the code persists, locate the front remote #4 valve block. Clean the area around the spool and actuator with compressed air or proprietary solvents to ensure no debris is jamming the mechanism.

   Test the sensor

   Using a multimeter or the tractor's onboard diagnostic 'H Menu', verify the signal voltage from the remote #4 potentiometer.

   Replace the potentiometer

   If the sensor reading is erratic, out of range, or dead, the potentiometer (rotation position sensor) on the spool valve has failed and must be replaced.

   Recalibrate EHR system

   After replacing the potentiometer or the valve actuator, you must perform an EHR calibration procedure so the control module can relearn the new 'neutral', 'fully extend', and 'fully retract' voltage parameters.
