Case IH 4557 – EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) controller or Armrest controller: EHR control no.2 not calibrated

Issue description

Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control lever or switch number 2 has lost its calibration. The system's controller can no longer accurately determine the neutral, raise, or lower positions of the lever, which disables the remote valve to prevent unintended hydraulic operation.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum series (235-340 Series 4, MX series)
  • Steiger / Quadtrac series (350-600)
  • Puma
  • Maxxum (MXM series)

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the lever is physically returning to the center/neutral position without obstruction.

  2. Perform A-Post indicator test: Turn tractor on, if instructed to move EHR to neutral and green cylinder light remains on, pull switch back slightly. If light goes out at 'true' neutral, the potentiometer is failing.

  3. Use the tractor's HH menu (H5 switch diagnostics) to verify if the controller is reading the switch inputs.

  4. Inspect the wiring harness from the armrest controls to the EHR controller for shorts or open circuits.

Repair steps

  1. Enter calibration mode

With the tractor off, press and hold the 'PROG' (Program) key on the A-post instrument cluster while turning the ignition key to the ON position.

  2. Navigate to calibration menu

Use the menu buttons (often 'h', 'm', and 'dimming') to navigate the HH menu to the H1 menu (Calibration).

  3. Select armrest section

Find the 'ARM' (Armrest) section or the transmission/EHR symbol.

  4. Calibrate remote

When prompted for the specific remote (Remote No. 2), pull the lever fully back (raise detent), then push it fully forward (lower detent), and finally let it return to neutral.

  5. Save calibration

Turn off the ignition key and wait at least 30 seconds for the controller to save the calibration values before restarting the tractor to test. Note: If calibration fails or is lost again shortly after, the potentiometer is worn out and the lever assembly must be replaced.
