Case IH 4560 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) control module/valve: Front remote No. 1 - no communications
Issue description
The tractor's main controller has lost CAN bus communication with the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve assigned to the front remote #1 position.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Puma/Mid Range Magnum
- MAXXUM T4E
- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma series (165, 180, 195, 210, 225, SWB models)
- Steiger series
- Magnum series
- Farmall series
- Maxxum series
Check the cause
Check for related codes: Look for other active error codes related to the CAN bus system. If multiple EHR valves (e.g., codes 4561, 4562) or other modules are offline, the issue is likely a main CAN bus line failure rather than the specific valve.
Inspect the EHR Diagnostic LED: The EHR 7.5 valves have internal diagnostic LEDs that flash blink codes. It may be necessary to extract the EHR valve from the valve box, next to the connector. The LED is internal and can be seen blinking through the plastic part of the valve wrap, located next to the harness connector. In some cases, you may need to carefully remove paint from the housing next to the connector to see it.
Wiring & Connector Check: Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Front Remote No. 1 EHR valve for corrosion, bent pins, or physical damage.
Power & Ground: Verify that the valve is receiving proper 12V power and ground.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the machine and disconnect the battery before servicing the electrical connections.
Clean and Reseat
Disconnect the harness from the Front Remote No. 1 EHR valve. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect it.
Harness Repair
If the harness is damaged, repair the broken wires or replace the EHR control valve wire harness section.
Replace the Valve
If the harness, power, ground, and CAN bus continuity are all verified as good, but the valve still does not communicate (or the internal LED indicates a fatal hardware failure), the Front Remote No. 1 EHR valve must be replaced.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Use the tractor's diagnostic menu (e.g., the "HC menu" on Puma/Magnum models) to erase all stored error codes.
Test and Calibrate
Test the hydraulic system for normal operation. Depending on the model, a spool calibration procedure may need to be run for the new valve.
