4561

Case IH 4561 – EHR (Electronic Hydraulic Remote) Controller: Front remote no. 2 - no communications

Issue description

The tractor's control system is no longer receiving CAN bus communication or control messages from the Electronic Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve assigned to the Front Remote No. 2 position.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check EHR Valve Diagnostic LEDs for localized flash codes (may require removing paint from the housing next to the connector)

  2. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the EHR controller to the Front Remote No. 2 valve for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins

  3. Verify that the Front Remote No. 2 valve is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground

  4. Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines at the valve connector for continuity back to the controller, ensuring no shorts to ground or power

Repair steps

  1. Access the Valve Stack

Locate the front remote valve stack on the tractor and identify the No. 2 valve.

  2. Examine the LED

Scrape away any factory paint covering the diagnostic LED on the valve housing (next to the electrical connector) to read the localized flash code.

  3. Test the Harness

Disconnect the EHR Control Valve Wire Harness. Use a multimeter to verify continuity on the CAN lines and ensure 12V power and ground are present when the key is ON.

  4. Replace Faulty Component

If the harness is damaged, replace the EHR wiring harness. If power, ground, and CAN lines are all good but the valve remains offline, the internal module/driver of the EHR valve has failed and the valve section must be replaced.

  5. Clear Codes via H-Menu

Connect to the tractor's diagnostic display (HH Menu). Navigate to the controller. Use the HC menu to erase all stored error codes without erasing calibration information. (Do not use the H8 menu unless you intend to wipe all EEPROM calibration values back to default).

  6. Recalibrate

If the EHR valve was replaced, perform the Electronic Hydraulic Remote Valve calibration procedure via the tractor's display to marry the new valve to the system.
