Case IH 4563 – EHR (Electro-Hydraulic Remote) control system: Front remote no. 4 - no communications

Issue description

The tractor's CAN bus system has lost communication with the electronic control module integrated into the Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) valve number 4, located at the front of the tractor.

Applies to these machines

  • Puma/Mid Range Magnum
  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Puma Series
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Maxxum Series

Check the cause

  1. Check the EHR Diagnostic LED flashing codes (it may be necessary to carefully remove the paint from the housing of the EHR valve next to the connector to see the internal LED flashing).

  2. Inspect the electrical connector at Front Remote Valve No. 4 for corrosion, backed-out pins, moisture ingress, or physical damage to the wiring harness.

  3. Verify the valve is receiving proper operating voltage (12V) and a solid ground.

  4. Test the CAN High and CAN Low lines for continuity between the valve connector and the central controller.

  5. Ensure the EHR control lever/joystick for remote number 4 is in the neutral position.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare machine safely

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all front and rear hydraulic implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the front remote valve stack to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electrical

Unplug the electrical harness connector from Front Remote Valve No. 4.

  4. Disconnect Hydraulics

Mark and disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the valve. Cap all lines and fittings immediately to prevent contamination and fluid loss.

  5. Remove the Valve

Remove the tie-bolts or mounting hardware securing the EHR valve to the manifold/stack and carefully extract the valve.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement EHR valve. Torque the mounting bolts to the specific OEM torque spec for your exact model's valve stack.

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connector.

  8. Calibration

Turn the key on and verify that fault code 4563 changes from 'Active' to 'Inactive.' You will likely need to perform a hydraulic remote valve calibration using the tractor's AFS Pro display or an electronic service tool so the central controller recognizes the new valve.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) Valve (Front Remote No. 4)

Specific part numbers vary heavily based on exact tractor model, year, and valve stack configuration. Consult Case IH parts catalog using machine's specific serial number. (Note: Do not use part EM4563, which is an unrelated vintage pump).
