Case IH 4564 – Armrest Controller Module (ACM) or EHR Controller: EHR joystick - no communications

The EHR (Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote) system relies on a Controller Area Network (CAN) bus to send physical lever movements from the operator's armrest to the hydraulic control modules. This code triggers when the control module stops receiving the expected CAN bus signal from the EHR joystick, indicating an open circuit, a short, or a failed joystick module. When this code is active, the affected hydraulic remotes will typically lock out as a failsafe until the tractor is restarted or the fault is cleared.

   Check for Accompanying Codes: Look for related codes like 1012 (Loss of communication with the armrest controller) or codes 4560-4563 (Front remote 1-4 no communications) to determine if the issue is isolated to a single joystick or the whole armrest network.

   Inspect the EHR Valve LED: On some models (like the Puma/Steiger), the EHR valve housing has an internal diagnostic LED visible through the plastic next to the harness connector. Check this LED for flash codes that might indicate a valve-side failure.

   Wiring & Connector Check: Remove the armrest cover and inspect the harness connector at the base of the EHR joystick. Look for backed-out pins, corrosion, or wire chafing.

   Voltage Test: Verify that the joystick is receiving its 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground.

   Cycle Test: Swap the hydraulic implement to a different remote (e.g., from SCV 1 to SCV 4) to see if the fault follows the physical remote or stays isolated to the specific lever.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent CAN bus voltage spikes.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws securing the top cover of the operator's armrest console.

   Remove the Joystick

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the bottom of the faulty EHR joystick. Unbolt the joystick assembly from the armrest mounting bracket.

   Seat the new EHR joystick into the bracket, secure the fasteners, and plug in the CAN bus harness.

   Reinstall the armrest cover and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Turn the key on. Navigate to the tractor's HH (Hydraulic) menu via the instrument cluster or AFS Pro display to perform a lever calibration (teaching the controller the new lever's neutral, full-extend, and full-retract detent positions).
