Case IH 46 – Power Shuttle Electronic Control Module (Transmission ECM): FUSE ERROR

Issue description

Triggered when the tractor is turned on and the ECM detects that the voltage at ECM Connector 2, Pin 1 is low, while the voltage at ECM Connector 2, Pin 10 is high. This indicates that the keyed 12-volt power supply circuit protecting Pin 1 has been interrupted.

Applies to these machines

  • JXC
  • Farmall 80C
  • Farmall 90C
  • Farmall 95N
  • Farmall 100C
  • Farmall 105A
  • JX
  • JXU
  • TN75A
  • TN70A
  • T4
  • T5

Check the cause

  1. Check Fuse #15: Locate fuse number 15 in the fuse panel. Verify if the 5-amp fuse is blown.

  2. Check for Open Circuits: If the fuse is intact, check for an open circuit between the battery and the key switch, or between the key switch and the fuse.

  3. Check ECM Wiring: Test for an open circuit in the wiring harness between Fuse 15 and ECM Connector 2, Pin 1.

  4. Test Voltage: Turn the key to the ON position. Use a multimeter to verify that +12V is reaching the fuse block and passing through to the ECM connector.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn the starter key to the OFF position.

  2. Inspect the Fuse

Remove the left-hand guard/panel to access the fuse block. Locate Fuse 15. If it is blown, replace it with a new 5 Amp mini fuse.

  3. Test for Shorts

If the new fuse blows immediately upon turning the key ON, trace the wire from Fuse 15 to ECM Connector 2, Pin 1 to find and repair the short to ground.

  4. Test the Harness

If the fuse is good, disconnect the control panel and the connections on the Transmission ECM (specifically Connector 2). Turn the starter key to the ON position. Measure the voltage at the harness side of Connector 2, Pin 1.

  5. Repair Wiring

If there is no +12V reading at the pin, repair the break in the wiring harness between the fuse block and the ECM.

  6. Replace ECM (Last Resort)

If the wiring is perfectly intact, +12V is reaching Pin 1, and the code persists, the Transmission ECM itself has an internal fault and must be replaced.

  7. Clear Codes

After the repair is complete, the cause must be resolved and the error must be cleared using the CDU (Control Display Unit) or the EST (Electronic Service Tool) via the HF Menu.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • 5 Amp Mini Fuse

The circuit is protected by Fuse slot #15, which requires a 5A fuse according to the transmission manual. Standard automotive mini fuses can be used.

  • Transmission ECM / Power Shuttle Module

    87743199

OEM Part Number varies heavily by exact model year and cab configuration. Fitment note: Must be ordered specific to your tractor's serial number and may require dealer end-of-line programming via the EST tool.

  • Main Cab/Transmission Harness

    55.101.AC

Generic part name: Main Cab/Transmission Harness. Part numbers are highly specific to the ROPS/Cab configuration.
