Case IH 4737 – UCM (Universal Control Module) or IC (Instrument Cluster): Right Swash Plate Angle Sensor In-Range Fault
Issue description
The signal from the right swash plate angle sensor is within the normal electrical operating range, but the reading is implausible. The control module detects that the actual measured angle of the right hydrostatic pump's swash plate does not match the commanded position.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Steiger series tractors
- Quadtrac series tractors
- Puma series tractors
- Maxxum series tractors
Check the cause
Perform a visual inspection of the right travel/hydrostatic pump and locate the swash plate angle sensor mounted on the bottom or side of the pump housing
Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the sensor for corrosion, moisture, or chafed wires that could cause skewed voltage returns
Check for mechanical binding inside the pump that might prevent the swash plate from moving when commanded
Connect the OEM service tool and monitor live data for 'Right Swash Plate Commanded Angle' versus 'Right Swash Plate Actual Angle' to see if the actual angle is erratic, frozen, or lagging
Repair steps
Preparation
Park the machine on a level surface, lower all attachments, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate the Sensor
Follow the hydraulic hoses from the right travel motor back to the right hydrostatic pump to locate the swash plate angle sensor.
Removal
Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws securing the sensor to the pump housing and pull the sensor out.
Installation
Insert the new swash plate angle sensor into the pump housing. Secure it using the mounting screws (screws are typically not serviced with the sensor and must be reused or procured locally).
Reconnection
Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor and reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Use the Case IH service tool to perform a hydrostatic pump / swash plate calibration. This allows the control module to learn the new sensor's zero-point and maximum angle parameters.
