4754

Case IH 4754 – UCM (Universal Control Module): Right Swash Plate Angle Sensor - Command Does not Match Swash Plate Angle

Issue description

The control module is sending a specific command to adjust the angle of the right hydrostatic travel pump's swash plate, but the feedback signal from the swash plate angle sensor does not match the expected position.

Applies to these machines

  • skid steer
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
  • tractors equipped with hydrostatic/ground drive systems

Check the cause

  1. Check for 'stacked' electrical fault codes (such as 4731 or 4732) that might indicate a direct electrical failure rather than a mechanical mismatch.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the sensor (located on the bottom of the travel pumps) for crushed, cut, or rubbed wires, and ensure the connector is securely seated and free of corrosion.

  3. Check the sensor for physical damage, as its location underneath the pump makes it susceptible to being bumped or cracked by debris.

  4. Verify recent maintenance and attempt to clear the codes to see if 4754 returns, as residual error codes may have been logged if the battery was not disconnected during recent repairs.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the machine, relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes to the UCM.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Trace the hydraulic lines from the right-side drive/travel motor back to the right hydrostatic travel pump. Locate the swash plate angle sensor mounted on the bottom of the pump.

  3. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws and pull the sensor from the pump housing.

  4. Install the New Sensor

Insert the new swash plate angle sensor into the pump housing and secure it with the mounting screws.

  5. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery, power on the machine, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the UCM fault codes. Operate the right drive circuit to verify the code does not return and the machine tracks straight.

Parts you might need
