Case IH 5 – Hitch Control Module: Two load pins have failed or one load pin if calibrated for one load pin.
Issue description
The electronic draft sensing pins (load pins) located on the 3-point hitch have suffered an internal failure, an open circuit, or a short circuit. The on-board computer halts the normal operation of the 3-point hitch to prevent damage, often only allowing a brief 5-second manual operation of the hitch each time the operator cycles the reset switch.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the draft pins for physical damage, melted coating, corrosion, or loose connections.
Test draft pin resistance with a multimeter. Pin A to Pin C should be 270 to 330 Ohms. Pin B to Pin C should be 175,000 to 195,000 Ohms. Pin A to Pin B should be 175,000 to 195,000 Ohms.
Verify hitch control module calibration to ensure the system is correctly configured for the number of load sensing pins present.
Repair steps
Lower the 3-point hitch
Option A (OEM Fix): Lower the 3-point hitch to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure and mechanical tension.
Turn off tractor and disconnect battery
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery.
Unplug wiring harness
Unplug the wiring harness connectors from the faulty draft sensing pins on the lower links.
Remove faulty draft pins
Remove the retaining hardware and extract the faulty draft pins from the hitch assembly.
Install new draft sensing pins
Install the new draft sensing pins and secure them with the retaining hardware.
Reconnect wiring harness
Reconnect the wiring harness.
Perform hitch calibration
Perform a hitch calibration cycle via the Hitch Control Module to clear the fault codes and re-zero the load cells.
Turn off tractor (Bypass Kit)
Option B (Bypass Kit): Turn off the tractor.
Disconnect wiring harness (Bypass Kit)
Disconnect the wiring harness from the draft sensors on both sides of the hitch.
Plug in Eliminator Kit modules
Plug the Eliminator Kit modules directly into the tractor's existing wiring harness (between the sensors and the computer).
Secure modules and wiring
Secure the modules and wiring with zip ties to prevent them from catching on moving parts.
Restart tractor
Restart the tractor; the computer will no longer detect the defective pins, the error codes will cancel, and manual 3-point hitch operation will be restored.
