5004

Case IH 5004 – CCH (Cab Controller Hub): Rear PTO - Auto PTO switch stuck on condition (CCH Only)

Issue description

This code indicates that the controller is receiving a continuous "ON" signal from the Auto PTO switch. The system detects that the switch is either physically stuck in the engaged position, has failed internally (contacts welded closed), or there is an electrical short in the wiring harness keeping the circuit closed.

Applies to these machines

  • Magnum
  • Case IH Magnum Series
  • Case IH Steiger / STX Series
  • Case IH Puma
  • Case IH Maxxum
  • Case IH MXU Series

Check the cause

  1. Physically inspect the Auto PTO switch on the armrest/console for mechanical binding or debris. Press it multiple times to see if cycling frees up stuck internal contacts.

  2. Disconnect the switch from the wiring harness and use a multimeter to check for continuity across the terminals. If there is continuity in the 'OFF' position, the switch has failed internally.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the Auto PTO switch and the CCH/Armrest Controller for rubbed wires or pinched harnesses that could cause a short to 12V power.

  4. Navigate to the diagnostic/switch data screens on the advanced display monitor to verify if the controller registers the switch state changing when toggled.

Repair steps

  1. Park machine

Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

  2. Disconnect power

Turn off the main battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  3. Remove trim

Carefully remove the trim panels or armrest console cover required to access the underside of the Auto PTO switch.

  4. Disconnect harness

Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

  5. Remove switch

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push the switch up and out of the mounting panel.

  6. Install switch

Insert the replacement Auto PTO switch into the console slot until the retaining tabs click securely into place.

  7. Reconnect harness

Reconnect the electrical harness to the new switch.

  8. Reinstall trim

Reinstall the armrest console cover and trim panels.

  9. Restore power

Turn the battery disconnect switch back on, power up the tractor, and clear the inactive fault codes.

  10. Test system

Test the Auto PTO function to ensure the system operates correctly and code 5004 does not return.
