Case IH 5006 – CCH (Cab Controller Hub): Rear PTO 5006 PTO remote fender switch open (CCH Only)

This code indicates that the controller has detected an "open circuit" in the rear PTO remote fender switch system. An open circuit means there is a break in electrical continuity—this is typically caused by a disconnected wiring harness, a broken wire, corroded connector pins, or an internal failure of the switch itself where the contacts no longer close.

   Inspect the PTO remote switch located on the rear fender for physical damage to the button or housing.

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch and inspect the plug for dirt, moisture, or green corrosion on the pins. Ensure the plug was fully seated.

   Trace the wiring harness from the fender switch back toward the cab. Look for chafed wires, cuts, or pinch points caused by debris or tire rub.

   Using a digital multimeter, test the switch for continuity. Probe the switch terminals and press the button. If there is no continuity, the switch has failed internally.

   If the switch tests fine, check the wiring harness for continuity between the switch connector and the CCH module to rule out a broken wire in the loom.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the faulty PTO switch on the rear fender. Depending on the model, you may need to remove a plastic mudguard or access panel behind the fender to reach the back of the switch.

   Disconnect Wiring

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Most CNH fender switches are held in place by plastic retaining tabs or a locking collar. Depress the tabs or unscrew the collar and push the switch out through the front of the fender panel.

   Install the New Switch

   Push the new OEM switch into the fender cutout until the retaining tabs click securely into place.

   Reconnect

   Plug the wiring harness back into the switch, ensuring the weather-pack seal is seated and the connector clicks.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, turn the tractor on, and test the fender PTO switch to ensure the PTO engages/disengages properly and the 5006 fault code clears.
