Case IH 5007 – Rear PTO Controller: PTO Clutch Solenoid Valve Short to +12 Volts / PTO remote fender switch stuck on
Issue description
Indicates a short circuit to 12V in the Power Take-Off (PTO) system. The controller detects that the PTO solenoid coil has failed short (resistance too low), the wiring has shorted to a 12V power source, or the controller is receiving a continuous 12V signal from the rear fender switch indicating it is stuck ON or shorted to power.
Applies to these machines

- Case IH Magnum Series (MX210, MX285, 235-340 Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Maxxum Series
- Case IH Puma Series
Check the cause
Inspect the rear PTO remote fender switch (if equipped) to ensure it is not physically jammed with dirt or debris. Disconnect it to see if the active code changes to an open circuit code (e.g., 5006).
Test solenoid resistance at the controller: Remove the rear controller cover, disconnect the black connector (C057), and test continuity between pin 4 and pin 5. Resistance should be 8.5 - 9.7 ohms at 25°C (77°F).
Test solenoid resistance at the valve: If resistance at the controller is out of range, test directly at the PTO solenoid connector (C159) between pin A and pin B. If outside 8.5 - 9.7 ohms, the solenoid is internally shorted.
Inspect the wiring harness: If the solenoid tests within specification at the valve but fails at the controller, inspect the harness between C057 and C159 for rubbed wires shorting to a 12V source.
Test the PTO controller: If wiring and solenoid are good, turn the PTO on and verify there is ~12 volts at pin 4. If not, the internal relay in the PTO controller has failed.
Repair steps
Locate the PTO Solenoid
Identify the PTO clutch solenoid valve on the rear transmission/hydraulic valve block.
Disconnect Wiring
Unplug the C159 wiring harness connector from the solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil
Remove the retaining nut or bolt at the end of the solenoid valve stem.
Replace the Part
Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. Clean the valve stem and slide the new OEM solenoid into place. Secure it with the retaining nut (do not overtighten, as this can warp the coil).
Repair Wiring (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks pointed to a harness short rather than the solenoid, locate the chafed wire, splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed heat shrink connectors, and re-loom the harness.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use the tractor's diagnostic display to clear the inactive fault codes. Test PTO engagement to ensure the code does not return.
