Case IH 5007 (2910.05) - DEC – Transmission Control Module (Trans) / Armrest Controller / Electronic Management Unit (CCM / MTA CCM): Rear PTO solenoid stuck outside / jammed deactivated or PTO remote fender switch stuck on

Issue description

An 'open circuit' fault for the Clutch RPTO Solenoid means that the control module is sending a command signal to engage the Rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch, but it is not detecting any electrical current returning through the circuit. This underlying condition is caused by a physical break in the electrical path, such as a severed wire, an unplugged connector, a blown supply fuse, or a completely failed (burnt out) internal coil within the PTO solenoid itself.

Check the cause

  1. Check the 12V supply fuses to verify power is reaching the circuit (a blown fuse will cut power and trigger open circuit or low voltage codes).

  2. Inspect the PTO remote fender switches and in-cab momentary switches to ensure they are not physically stuck closed, packed with dirt, or shorting to ground.

  3. Perform a harness continuity check between the Electronic Management Unit Connector (C105, pin 36) and the RPTO solenoid connector (C19, pin 22), as well as the ground path to C042.

  4. Check connectors C105, C19, and C042 for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

Repair steps

  1. Park and secure the tractor

    Park the tractor on firm, level ground, turn off the engine, and remove the key (Key 15 off).

  2. Locate components

    Locate the Rear PTO Solenoid Valve block (typically mounted on the rear transmission housing) and the Electronic Management Unit.

  3. Disconnect connectors

    Disconnect the main Electronic Management Unit Connector (C105) and the RPTO solenoid connector (C19).

  4. Test wiring harness continuity

    Using a digital multimeter, perform a continuity test on the wiring harness between C19 and C105 to isolate the open circuit.

  5. Test solenoid coil resistance

    If the wiring harness tests good (no broken wires), test the resistance of the Rear PTO Solenoid coil itself. If the multimeter reads infinite resistance (OL), the solenoid coil has failed internally.

  6. Clean connectors

    Clean the electrical connectors and apply dielectric grease.

  7. Replace faulty solenoid

    If the solenoid is faulty, unbolt the retaining nut/screws on the PTO valve block, remove the old solenoid coil/valve, and install the replacement part.

  8. Reconnect and clear codes

    Reconnect all plugs, power on the tractor, and clear the stored fault codes.

  9. Perform calibration

    Depending on the model, a Rear PTO calibration procedure may need to be performed via the on-board diagnostics menu after replacing transmission/PTO components.
