Case IH 5010 – Engine Controller (ECU) / Instrumentation Controller (INST / INST2 / ICU): Engine Oil Pressure sensor is failed in the Engine Controller.

The engine control system has detected a critical fault with the engine oil pressure sensor or its circuit. The controller is either receiving an implausible signal, no signal, or a voltage reading that falls outside the acceptable operating range, preventing the system from accurately monitoring the engine's oil pressure.

   Check the wiring harness leading to the engine oil pressure sensor for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the sensor and inspect the connector pins for damage, pushed-back pins, moisture, or corrosion.

   Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and ground from the Engine Controller.

   Look for companion codes like 5011 (Engine Oil Pressure sensor voltage is too low - open circuit, short to ground), which further isolates the issue to a wiring short or open circuit rather than a mechanical sensor failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the engine oil pressure sensor on the engine block (location varies depending on whether the machine has a Cummins or FPT engine).

   Disconnect

   Carefully unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

   Remove the Sensor

   Using an appropriately sized deep socket or wrench, unthread the failed oil pressure sensor from the engine block. Have a rag ready to catch any residual oil.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new OEM sensor into the port. Tighten to the torque specification outlined in your specific engine's service manual (do not overtighten, as the brass threads can break).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the engine, and monitor the dash display. Verify that the oil pressure reads normally and that fault code 5010 moves to an inactive state or clears entirely.
